Stuck in Time: Worrying about what action to take

Being Stuck in Time: Paralyzed by Fear

As we dig into our 3 part blog on our internal conflict with TIME and how to resolve it- we started with our reversal of time, where we are not present to what is happening today, but living in the past. We then dug into speeding up time by worrying about the future vs. pausing and taking the time to determine what is true in the moment. Today we will look at when we are caught between the past and the future, STUCK as the image above so clearly shows!

Fear has a way of creating what I call ‘Foolish Avoidance’. Its when you are overwhelmed from worrying about the past or the 100 scenarios you have built in your head for the future and you convince yourself the best thing to do is take a break and it will come to you! Sounds smart, and I do support taking time from a problem to allow space for ideas to come. BUT, when that turns into finding other things to occupy yourself, giving a false sense of accomplishment (cleaning out 1 messy drawer vs let’s take apart the basement storage of 350 boxes…!) That is the funny thing about foolish avoidance, it feels good until the stress builds back up because you are no closer to your goal and time starts going faster!

TIP: A powerful and curious question to break the trigger is ‘What is one thing I/we could do to get closer to my/our goal or outcome?’ Again, this type of curiosity can result in creativity, innovation and ease! It also helps to understand what can you do and what do you need help doing? Asking for help is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves, but we need to be present to know what that looks or feels like.

What I love about the all the tools we have discussed, is you can also use them together in any situation as a way to get curious and present in any situation. Right now when you think of an issue, get present and ask yourself these questions:

What do I know now that I did not before? What do I know to be true in this moment? What is one thing you can do that would bring you closer to your goal of what is important to you during this time? GO DO THAT ONE THING!
